So, I watched the foreign adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and...yeah. I need to talk this shit out.
Hmmm. So, the face rape, followed by another twenty minutes of even more rape, was unnecessarily excessive, right? Like, I’m not the only one who thought it wasn't necessarily in any way integral to the actual plot of the movie?
Because I kind of think that alluding to her traumatic childhood and, okay, *maybe* to her guardian being a sadistic rapist would have been evidence enough to support Lisbeth’s characterization without showing a series of disturbingly brutal, graphic, sexually violent scenes that I couldn’t even fast forward through because, when it comes to these specific kinds of visualizations of violence against women, I sort of freeze up? I basically liken it to my reactions to centipedes which is to just gape in absolute terror while I wait for it to disappear all on its own because I’m too goddamn scared to do anything else.
So, there’s that.
