Made it out to San Fran for my 2ND Yaoi con this year!!! ^_^
GETTING THERE...
Dana and I took the train this year. We caught the Heartland Flier in Norman and took it down to Fort Worth where we caught the Texas Eagle. We then rode the Eagle ALL the way down to San Antonio where our car was detached from the Eagle and attached to the Sunset limited and it took us all the way to California where we caught the Surfliner to Santa Barbara and from there we were to catch a bus that would take us all the way to San Fran...
* The Flier was a piece of cake, as always.
*By the time Dana and I got on the Eagle, we kind of got split up until Palm Springs. She ended up in a window seat on one side of the train and I ended up in the window seat on the other side and the guys sitting with us didn't get off until Palm Springs. These were pretty coll guys though, they didn't bother us mush or try to hit on us *thank gawd* BUT! While we were in San Antonio, the guys got locked out of the car as it was moved to switch trains, so what do they do? They go get drunk *heavy sigh* When they got back on the train, Dan's guy flopped down in his seat and was pretty much a dead body...my guy on the other hand came in, flopped down, got back up, PEED IN THE TRASH BOX, flopped back down and proceeded to toss and turn for the rest of the night. Thankfully I had gotten enough sleep to remain awake and alert enough to not get hit by a foot or a hand and the only casuality was my poor knee that got pinned by one of his legs. Other than that, nothing bad really happened.
*Texas is a really BIG state and it took a whole day to ride the train all the way down and along part of the coast *heavy groan*
*When we got to LA, we found out that a cable broke on the Silver Princess bridge and we would be given a different way into the city. So we got on the Surfliner, made some friends with some locals and caught the Amtrak bus all the way to Oakland where we were dropped off at the BART and given a free ride into San Fran. While our new friends Rein and her brother got off in San Bruno, Dana and I went all the way to the airport where we grabbed from fruit and milk to go with our cereal bars and then crashed for a while before we caught the shuttle to the hotel. THANK GOD FOR BEDS!!!!!!!!!
AT THE CON!
2009 Yaoi-Con rocked!!!!!
We orignaily had three room mates lined up to share the room with us.
One lost her time off at the last minuet.
Another texted us that she was on the way.
And in the end we only had one room mate, which was kewl cuz he got the bed all to himself ^_^
Our room mate's nick name was PK and we was the Hard Gay that was running around all weekend, helped out with Bishie Bingo, Bishie Auction and Closing Ceremonies. I think he was also in the brunch but Dana and I didn't make it to that this year. But to get ready for his costume, PK had brought a waxing kit for his legs. (yes, you heard me right). Unfortunatly our room didn't have a micro wave and all the ones that the hotel had was first come first serve. I then send out an SOS to our new YCon friends Jewel and Niki for help.
We all met Jewel and Niki Friday afternoon on the way out to Japan Town, where we took everyone to our favorite restaurant at the JTown mall and the we all did a little shopping before it was tie to head back and poor Niki's feet were hurting *hands her a health shroom* After we got back to the hotel, I think PK crashed while we had an all girl party in the pool/hot tub where we were soon joined by many other YCon attendies ^_^
Well! While we were all changing in our swim things, I had noticed that our new friends had a microwave. I sent her a SOS and Saint Jewel said we could use it. Well, came in like near the end of the whole process but I found out that the cursed kit didn't come with enough strips so PK was "locked up" in the bathroom shaving the rest off...and next thing we know we hear "Oh no" which is soon being chanted like a mantra. Turns out PK cut himself when he shaved BEHIND his knee. Good news? Dana and I brought a fully packed first aid kit ^_^
Thankfully that was the only bad thing to happen to our group this whole weekend (which god do I thank for that again?)
One of our most favorite yaoi creators, Makoto Tateno was at YCon this year!!!!
So Dana got in line and got her copy of Yellow Vol 3 signed ^_^ She also went to the Q and A session to ask if there's going to be a storyline about how Sandfish not only got together but how EXACTLY did they get Taki?

...
...
Yes, there is *SQUEALS*
Swap Meet was awesome fun, I walked out with a stack of book in think the size of a kindergartner *LOL* And I snagged a bunch of pics of cosplayers! Even got pics of BOTH Hard Gays!
Dana and I made it to a lot of panels this year. We made it to Foods Corrupted by Yaoi, StarGAYt and Yaoi in Comics while only I was able to make it to Our Resin Bishonin and Going Pro/Getting Published.
Made it to Bishi Bingo this year! That was a blast but we ran out of bingo cards early because we didn't realize that we had to start over with new cards after each win *le sigh*
Popped into the video room only once the whole weekend, went into the Library twice and went through the dealers room a couple of times ^_^ I know that I got my picture taken twice the whole weekend (wish me luck on actually FINDING those pictures) I don't know if Dana got her picture taken but I know that PK had his taken like a BAZILLION times *laughs*
Made it to the Doll Meet on the first day in the lobby, sad to say that was the only official doll meet I knew for sure about (though we heard rumors about another one but never confirmed it)
Closing ceremonies were fun, even if we didn't win anything.I loved the MCs, especially the one of the left ^_^
Afterwards, all three of us went up to a friends room to play some Wii games. Got to try out Mario Cart (rocked), Okami (oh gawd i want that game) and that ultimate Nintendo fighting games with all their popular characters. We played games during dinner and then drifted over to our den mother Anneeke's room where she was throwing a party. (we call Anneeke our den mother because she took Dana and I under her wing at our first YCon)
The party was fun as it always is and then things kinda went down hill when this couple walked into the room and wanted to join the party. Nobody knew who they were, they obviously didn't go to the convention and they were simply there for the booze. After a small chat, the couple left to find another party to crash...and then they came back!!! Needless to say, they were quickly stopped, given a serious talk to that this was a private party and asked politely to leave, which they begrudgenly did. After that, the door was closed and no one left the room alone for anything!
AFTER THE CON!
Thank the gods, the bridge had been fixed over the weekend so we could catch the shuttle bus Tuesday night.
Dana and I spent Monday in both Japan Town and in China Town. We went to JTown first where we got Crepes for brunch. We ended up at the yellow one near the Hello Kitty store and the guy dressed up our Crepes like animals. I got a teddy bear and Dana got a kitty! They were delicious and cute at the same time ^_^ We poked around int he new 1.50 store before we left for China Town where we gift shopped for friends/family back home. We walked all the way down the tourist shop side of China Town, went half way down the food shop side before we turned back around to get two last gifts before we headed back to the hotel.
I have ONE thing to say about the transportation maps in San Fran. They make things look bigger than they actually are.
Like when we were looking for the BART, which was EIGHT FEET away from the bus stop were asked directions at. And again on Tuesday mornign when we were looking for the ferry building. The map made it look a mile away...it was only a block away *groans*
After putting the three main bags in hock, Dana and I went down to Fisherman's warf for the first REAL time. We walked all over Pier 39, got to see a bunch of wild seals for the first time :3 And we got to hit BOTH the Ripley's museum and the Wx Museum. I swear, some of those figures were creepy real, but think things weren't organized very well in the hall of horrors. And I think the best part (or at least, the most unbelievable) part of the Ripley's museum was the graveyard full of replica tombstone was some out there inscriptions.
IN THE END
After three more long days on the Amtrak, Dana and I were smelling pretty much like old cheese when we got home. We called for Chinese as Dad drove us home, but it never showed up so we had chicken tenders instead. Found out the next day they had a new driver and he apparently gets lost easily *laughs* CJ took awesome care of the cats and thankfully Uly didn't find and kill anymore mice while we were away, but we still told the office about it.
All in all, we had a blast at YCon 09 and we're looking forward to YCon 11. Unfortunatly, my family wants to go back out to NY for a visit so I'm going to try and make it out next year *le sigh*
