It's been a long time since I lived in Boston, but I found a roommate through a roommate-matching service. I wouldn't be surprised if the folks at Brandeis can't point you to one or two of those types of things. At least that way you wouldn't be left on your own: strange city, strange people, strange rude way of driving, and having to find an apartment all by yourself.
