Well I have to share my time management tip I heard on NPR one morning, which has changed my life. Basically what they said was "Don't check your email or messages first thing in the morning.

The rational was, from the time we get up, through our showers, morning routine, commute, and until we sit down at our desks, we are plotting and planning our days. By checking your email first thing you are handing away all that good planning and allowing someone else to shape your day and your plans. Instead, they suggested that you work your planning time into a concrete plan for the first hour to hour and a half of your day, and then check your messages. You get the things that are most important in your day done early, which gives you a boost of success early enough that it is easier to deal with the things that come up through the day.

I thought that was a simple, but suprisingly helpful idea.
