What's a food you feel is under-appreciated, and memories associated with it?

I'm not sure that they count as under-appreciated, but in the microcosm that is my sphere of influence, mushrooms seem to be. I can hardly remember a time I haven't liked them, and this is mostly because I have a fantastic early memory associated with them. I have

What a sweet story! :) Mushrooms are one of my favourite things, but I only started to like them after I'd read LotR (at age 12). I decided that since hobbits love mushrooms, I had to start liking them too. :D

It's funny how literature or other media that we love can go a long way to persuading us that something is worth trying ;)

I like all mushrooms, although I'm especially fond of oysters and shiitake. Some ruffly kind, too, the name of which I don't know.
