I diddn't quite realize the extent of Katrina's damage untill reading todays WSJ....something like that really puts one's own personal problems into perspective. I'm severely tempted to say forget moving in downtown, forget depaul and travel south to help out with relief efforts

I honestly know the feeling. Part of me just wants to get in a car and go down there. To hell with my education.

I've made myself a promise that, once I am free to leave whenever called upon, I will volunteer with the American Red Cross Disaster Services or something very similar.

I know it's tough not to run off and do whatever you can. Personally, I console myself by making whatever donations I can. Mostly money, sometimes old clothing (bi-yearly closet purge). And, when I'm on campus, I can occasionally give blood.

They're not great solutions, but (especially blood) they can really, REALLY help.
