TVD S04E01-S04E04

Random thoughts I jotted down as watched these four episodes:

1.

- What is this new voice over shit?

- So Davis and Trevino give better Klaus than Morgan does, and yet Davis gets killed off (I hear his new show isn't doing very well) and Trevino is sent away again only this time his departure will be for an indefinite amount of time (and from the sounds of it, he probably won't come back). Meanwhile, Morgan is the one who gets his own spin-off. How is this even close to being fair?

- Rebekah is awesome.

2.

- Can we ban the word "heightened" from the TVD writers' vocabulary? Please?

- So, is April lost? Did she lose her way going to a Joss Whedon gig? I only ask because her manner, dialogue, everything really, screams she's a new student at Sunnydale High, not MFHS. This is actually quite jarring for me. Tonally she is completely wrong for the show. I mean, I like her, but she seems so out of place.

- Just love how much of a Special Snowflake vampire Elena is. Of course animal blood and bagged blood isn't good enough for her. RME.

- Seriously? "Heightened." Again?! And as I wrote this, there is it is again, for at least the fourth time this episode. Make it stop!

- Cleared up the weird April/Joss Whedon vibe I was getting: Jose Molina co-wrote this episode with Julie Plec. I totally get it now. And, wow, do they ever have completely different styles which do not mesh well. All in all it made for a very uneven episode. Some parts were great while other parts were the same old overwrought drivel.

3.

- Someone...anyone...please kill the new voice over.

- It's okay for Elena to feed from a willing human (Matt), but not for Tyler or Rebekah (see S03E09). Fuck you, Julie Plec, fuck you.

- I've decided Rebekah is the best. She is now my favourite character.

- "Lockwoof"? (Or is it Lockwolf? As I've watched more eps and heard Tonkin say "wolf" I can't tell because of her bad American accent. Either way, it's still LAME.) For real? This was a thing that someone wrote into the dialogue??? And someone else allowed??? OMG WHY DOES THIS SHOW EXIST??? This is a terrible attempt at being...what I don't even. A nickname? A bon mot? Uh, NO. Hey! Why don't I try to come up with one? Hmm...let's see... Oh! I know: Phoeble Tonkin, as in her acting is so feeble, as is her attempt at an American accent. I see neither has improved since she was on The Secret Circle.

- I didn't think it was possible for me to hate Matt more but after he gave Rebekah up to Connor, I do. Oh, how I do. You leave my bb alone, you asshole. Oh, I know it was a totally Matt thing to do--as if he'd ever give up Elena--but I don't have to like it.

- OMG the motorcycle scene. Massive second hand embarrassment.

- OH GOD I WISH THAT SCENE WITH REBEKAH RIPPING OUT MATT'S HEART WAS REAL.

- Watching Damon and Klaus working together was creepy. Two misogynistic, abusive, sociopathic peas in a pod. There's a lovely mutually enabling partnership. But then, that describes most of the partnerships/relationships on this show. *sigh*

- Awww, are April and Rebekah going to be BFFs? <3 <3 <3

- Klaus: You don't know your own history...? Me: Pretty much the question I want to put to JP & Co., like, ALL. THE. TIME.

4.

- Ugh. Fast-forwarding past the lame voice over from now on.

- LOL. What's up with the Conan the Barbarian cold open?

- Not used to hearing David Alpay speak in what I guess is his natural accent. It's weird.

- Damon helping Elena hunt and feed is gross.

- Klaus and Rebekah: bickeryousuckbickeryousuckmorebickerihateyoubickerihateyoumore
Stefan: Let me just name the million other people I'd rather be having dinner with right now.
Me: *re-watches scene and LOLs forever*

- Things TVD taught me: using roofies for sex is not okay but using compulsion for sex is okay. AGAIN, FUCK YOU, JULIE PLEC, FUCK YOU.

- Elena and Damon dancing. OMG. Torn between LOLing and second hand embarrassment. And why, WHY did that scene go on for so long?

- Poor Rebekah. She's too good for these assholes.

Not much mention of Tyler and Caroline, I know, but they were barely present in any way that showcased them as characters rather than tools for someone else's game. It's like they're the guest stars now instead of regs.
