Now that I am beginning to feel a bit better (thank Tylenol) I've started to feel the spirit of open debate. I have been taking a Sociology class and extremely enjoy the fact we debate important topics. It's great! *grins* So I thought I might give it a shot here. Simple rules, feel free to say what you like about any topic I post, but please keep ( Read more... )

if you go strictly by the words of the bible then yes....

it says "he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" to me that connotes that as long as the person believes, then in the bounds of that faith then yes, they will...

Yeppers, that is true. (see einarhelgiskal's reply). Not only that, but if they ask for "forgivenss" for their "sins", it is an automatic in too. My personal thing is that according to the Christian and other religions, man was greated in God's image, therefore, homosexuality is not wrong, for if he did not mean for it to happen, it would not. This also brings up something else, such as since they proved that we evolved from apes and the such, does that mean God is an ape? I am not meaning any disrespect by that question, but it is a valid one. I also see homosexuality as sort of a population contol thing too. To each his own, for it is their life, no one elses. Be happy, eat good food, and love, sweet love.

YES. for a few reasons, the new testement(with which christianity derives from) states that jesus came to fullfill and destroy the law(all the stuff that man could never abide by because of original sin).

plus god sent jesus to die for our sins so that we may be saved!

"As defined by the Christian faith, is it possible for homosexuals to go to heaven?"Let's start with Criteria for going to Heaven, most Christians would agree that to enter heaven you basically need to have as little "sin" on your "soul" as possible ( ... )

My 10 cents.... dragonflytears February 25 2006, 23:33:15 UTC
I try to stay out of religious debates but there is a misconception that alot of people have and I want to clear it up. Being good or less sinful does not cause you go to heaven anymore than being bad or full of sin sends you to hell. If that were the case everyone would go to hell according to the christian faith. It is belief in Jesus Christ that gets you into heaven according to the Bible. So having said that, yes gay people who believe in God according to the christian faith will go to heaven and those who don't will burn in hell, I guess. That is my understanding according to the Bible. It is belief or faith should I say that is the determining factor, not sin b/c according to the Bible everyone is a sinner and deserves to go to hell. And only by turning from those sins and believing in God can one hope to be saved.

Ultimately it comes down to one's view of sin and forgiveness. Having been raised Lutheran the general view there is one is forgiven for any and all sins so long as one is truely repenetive and seeks forgiveness from god.

Each denomination is different, some require a formal confession, other simply acknowledging that the deed was wrong and repenting (as i.e. turning from those sins)

For the sake of debate I'm presuming the question would be posed towards one who is Christian, afterall, if one is not and does not believe in the Holy Trinity, why would they be concerned with the Christian afterlife?

However to your opening line:
there is a misconception that alot of people have and I want to clear it up. Being good or less sinful does not cause you go to heaven anymore than being bad or full of sin sends you to hell.I understand your point here, and I can see where some reading my arguement might poke at that, however, as I understand it, "sin" per this discussion remains on the soul until it is repented. Again, in the Lutheran ( ... )
