Display cases for dolls. There are several varieties of which I don't know the name but which my mother has several of. They all have raw white porcelain heads, that is a "porcelain"(uncertain; some type of ceramic) with a smooth, non-reflective surface(similar to smooth, unpainted clay). This is lightly painted to give facial features(simple sumi-e like lines and subtle blush and "blue scalp skin"). The hands are made like this as well but not painted. The two types I know off hand differ in the bodies. One type the clothing is just like regular clothing with is cut to fit a very particular pose. The other type is peculiar in that the clothing is actually strips of cloth cut scpecifically for every contour, the contours of the voluminous clothing being solid wood carved in the shape wanted for the outfit. Hair is usually of some strandy facsimile and rarely a "solid unit". The cases seem to be to keep dust off the delicate fabrics and to keep the ceramic elements from yellowing/coloring from environmental pollutants.
