Is There a Chance for the Future?

Zia & I discovered something yesterday, & it has me in a bit of a quandry. It's called "The Venus Project". If you've already heard of this before, I apologize if I seem a bit oblivious. But as I said - we only just discovered this. Feel free to either disregard the rest of this post, or respond if you have thoughts, info, etc ( Read more... )

On the subject of prisons, there's a lot of truth to what you have there, but there are also a lot of other things that go in to it as well. Glamorization of gang culture, narcissism, mental illness, drug use, lack of education ... There actually is a lot of cultural stuff that would have to become no longer appealing to the disenfranchised. I personally do not think that there will come a time when we don't need prisons, but I am all in favor of eliminating what we can of the causes. One of the MHP's at my old job was telling me that the prisons in Austria are very, very rehabilitative, and it works pretty dang well for them. It would be nice to see that become more widespread.

I haven't read all of the site's material yet, but i would imagine that a lot of the associated "causes" would fall in the same "treatment" areas. If people are ahppy & fulfilled, then (hopefully) the appeal of gangs would disappear, as everyone would feel viable & worthwhile. Mental illness, drug appeal & education, etc. All would be focus for attention, instead of "We don't have the funds because we need a massive military". We'd be so much more focused & encouraged on taking care of one another, that these tyhings would become a thing of the past because the need for their existence would disappear.
