Why should I tarry,
he asked with a tranquil eye.
In destinies sad or merry,
true men can but try.
Just a little snippet that keeps me sane and a means of procrastination while I burn away what is hopefully the last hour of my day. There are at least two people on my wee flist who ought to know the quote origin.

Did I ever link you to this absolutely gorgeous Sir Gawain/Green Knight fic? It's one that makes explicit the hinted-at undertones in SGGK, but without losing the poetry of the language.

But yes, it is SGGK and you get a million snugs and loves and cookies for being BRILLIANT.
and you give me SGGK fic? Um. Because when I read that fic in college, that was clearly before fandom or the glory that is slash. But it did strike me that those fellas were swapping spit more than is called for even if they are roaming the land in tights and frolicing. Hm.

We had a book like that for Chaucer in my 2nd year. Alas, the same prof who did SGGK was like "PFFFT READ IT IN THE ORIGINAL, BITCHES" again my third year. As it transpired, Chaucer was a breeze to decipher after SGGK, hahaha. But anyhoo.
Yeah, we discussed for quite a while in class the homoeroticism in the text (if G had slept with the lady, would Bertilack have reasonably demanded the same favour?), so of course there had to be fic made of it where suggestion became actual fact. :D
THERE IS FIC OF EVERYTHING. Though not nearly enough Byron/Shelley fic, which makes me sad.
