To answer your last question: In the nominative case, der and ein are masculine, die and eine are feminine, and das and ein (again) are neuter (All of those are singular; plurals don't retain gender). Die can also be the plural for any noun.

The other articles (den, dem, des, einen, einem, eines, et cetera) are for the accusative, dative, and genitive cases, which are considerably more confusing.

Thank you so much! Latin also has accusative, dative and genitive cases. Accusative was for direct objects, dative indirect objects, and genitive was possessive. Is it the same in German?

Yes, it should be. Knowing when to use which was never really my strong point, but I do know which words are in which cases. German seems to like using the cases and genders in every way possible, including adjectives.

Do you want me to find or make a chart for you, of all of the articles in the different cases? And have you started pronouns?
