Number ch5 summary
Uh.
x-posted, as usual. Also sorry for the copious fail and crack comments. XD
The lines on the first page mention Mizuto and Toneriko - (something about their path being tragic?) It should be noted that on the title page Mizuto's name uses the kanji for 'light' while Toneriko's uses 'dark', but in the actual dialogue they're written out in kana. (Whee, symbolism!) On the right hand side it ays “Number 4 x Number 5” plus two characters I can't find the meaning of, but I'm sure it's not too hard to guess what this is referring to >.>
Second page - the text box down the side is a summary of previous events which you only see in magazine scans anyway, so I skipped it. I'm pretty sure most of those boxes in further chapters are the same, so I won't translate those.
Third page (Aralag's smile freaks me out here) -the text boxes is just Aralag's weird evil laugh(No, really, “ihishi”?) as Ageha watches from a balcony. (At least I assume it's still Ageha...? Despite what chapter 4 says it's very easy to mistake him for someone else OTL)
And then...
“I'M SO LOST!!!!!”
...yup, poor Mizuto's lost on his way home XD He completely freaks out, as one does when you're lost in some random forest (how far away is this again?)He yells so loudly the nearby animals freak out too...XD(the little boxes say “This way? That way?”)He thinks to himself there aren't even any nearby houses, but then something catches his attention...*dun dun dun*It's really unclear whether this is Mizuto's thoughts or just a voice in his head...but anyway it's along the lines of “Help...Someone...”...and the road does this weird disappearing thing. I have no clue what happens here.Neither does Mizuto:
“What? What is this? Something...”
The text in the next panel (I think) tell us he's getting a bad feeling from this path.
We now cut to the OMGWTFITSHUGE library. (At Thanatos? Wow, this place must be huge...
Toneriko's doing research on something:
“Ten years ago”
“Thanatos”
“Furoribanda family...”
(An interesting note: when pronounced “Furoribanda” sounds a lot like “Floribunda”, a genus of white rose. Hmm.)
“There's a chance...but the only articles are missing...”
He decides to at least check “Black Sheep”, and wonders why his mother was on the list (I think?)
'Think...!!'
“What was it at that time? “
(And now there's a line I keep getting wrong, which is very frustrating...)
“Why did I survive!?”(It's more like “Why was I allowed to live” or something but I'm missing a symbol in there somewhere...)
And back in the forest:
“Why did...something this cruel...”
Mizuto found (what was left of) the bird from ch4...
...and guess who it is?
“...although after this, you'll be half-killed...”
Sakura really holds a grudge against anyone who helps Toneriko, huh...
Back at the library...
“That...sounded like Mizuto's voice...”
Not quite realising what's happened, Toneriko continues studying, except...he's too short to reach a certain book...
...so Aralag appears to get it down for him. OTL
“Here, you wanted this?”
“...thanks.”
XD “Shitty brat” was evidently more of an accurate description than he thinks...
There's another line I can't get but judging by what just happened t's probably “why are you looking for such a book” or something along those lines.Toneriko mentions that he's looking up information about the Floribunda estate...Aralag points out that Number business is kept a secret - it's not likely to be written down anywhere. The only person who has records of the people killed via Number work is Ageha, apparently.......and once again I have *no idea* what the next few speech bubbles say. OTL
On the next page, we get:
“I should inform you...”
“Darkness and light aren't compatible.”
“Right now (that monkey?) might make sure two ends up as one...”(something else I couldn't read goes here)
Realising what he's talking about Toneriko runs off, leaving Aralag free to gloat over his evil plot.At least, I think that's what he's doing....
Toneriko's frantically trying to work out whose plot this is as he's running, but this is quickly overridden by worry for his friend. He's still too late, though, as he finds out...
Of course Sakura, being Sakura, starts taunting Toneriko about how he beat up Mizuto...only to be (nearly) shot in the face. How Toneriko managed to shoot Sakura's collar off and not do any damage I still don't know.
So, uh, Sakura has a little rant that I can't translate. For the purposes of this summary, let's just assume it's about how much he'll enjoy crushing Toneriko >.>
Scene change to...to...well, I initially thought it was Ageha's office, but then who the hell has a sofa in their office....Anyway, Aralag's joined Ageha for tea. I just knew Ageha would have a tea obsession.One of them - it's hard to tell which but I think it might be Ageha - asks “Do you have so little work to do besides rankings?” (ie Number work?)Aralag laughs it off by saying that there's far more “sheep hunting” than he alone can do anyway. He then says something about Ageha being the “number one” (of what? I couldn't get the rest of it), and Ageha reluctantly (?) agrees.Then Aralag says something I can't make sense of (again) but I'm guessing he's talking about Edelweiss since Ageha's response is “Oh, 'her'?” (the characters for “girlfriend” are used but it doesn't make sense...how can anyone mistake that kind of master-servant thing for a relationship...)
Anyway, Aralag's sent Edelweiss on a “little errand” (read: plot)
...then he starts this pervy fanboying thing. OTL He even has a nosebleed. Poor Edelweiss, having to put up with such a master...Ageha's just being all “Right, right....” while hentai Aralag goes on...and on...and on......and in a crushing blow to my self-esteem I can't get the last line either. >< Any help? The chapter ends with something about how he (Aralag) is just waiting until Edelweiss...er...something? >< I think I know what it's referring to but I don't want to spoil the next two chapters...
The next one will be MUCH shorter since it's mostly the fight scene.
Also if anyone can translate the Chinese scans and check whether I have the right idea here or not I will be very very very grateful...
