A Friday afternoon's musings...

So... why do some people make their journals friends-only? Oh, I suppose to know why, it just goes against my nature. Mind you, if I make a post that is in some way sensitive or only intended for a small audience, I will certainly lock the individual posts... But the rest of the time I feel inclined to simply speak and let the words fall where they ( Read more... )

I post a lot of fanart that I don't have permission from the artists to post, so I definitely prefer doing that under a locked post. I also don't really enjoy interacting that much with people I don't know. Maybe I'm a little paranoid, but I prefer talking mostly with friends and acquaintances.

I'll admit, too, that having a locked journal helps keep people I'd rather not associate with out of my business. If a person isn't a friend, they don't really need to know my weekend plans and what's up with my job. :-)

That's a good point. I'm sorry, didn't mean to come off bitchy about it. I think it just tends to run counter to the way I operate, and yet I know there are plenty of good reasons to do it. Does that make sense?

No worries. I wasn't bothered by anything you said. It just shows that there are different ways of seeing it. :-)

I actually had some problems with a few people in fandom, so having my journal locked made me feel a little more comfortable, at least until I discovered one person was using a fake journal to spy. It was silly, since I never once talked about them in my journal, ever.

I keep mine locked largely out of self-preservation -- my ex has been known to snoop throughout the internet and use anything I write against me for the purposes of getting greater custody of my daughter. It's just easier for me to keep it locked at all times.

*nodnod* And that's a completely sensible reason to do it.
