Vanilla smells like a shade of blue.

Words are not real.

The second you fully, completely, and without reservation believe one thing, you have closed the door to understanding anything.

Believing is different from knowing.

It may not be possible for any two people to know the exact same thing.

Cats smell like a shade of red.

since I see two way in which that can be taken i will respond to them both:

1 - Who cares whether you or anyone else 'approves' or not.

2- Cool. Glad someone gets it.

Apply any and all that are applicable.

I've never thought of smells in terms of colors, or vice-versa. Interesting that you perceive smells that way.

Only some. But with those it is always the exact same shade.

Ahh, synaesthesia. Did you know that until very recently it wasn't even recognized as something that existed by the scientific community?

I don't think it is synaesthesia. The scents have to be fairly distinct, and it happens to a greater extent with smells that have emotional overtones - i don't see colors with all smells. And even then the colors are only lightly seen over my other thoughts - which are already visual/sensory/emotion based. I think it is a case of strong association.
