Drain volcano is a fairly low-key way to open up drains, loosen clogs, freshen the pipes, and DO A SCIENCE. You put about 1/4 cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by a cup or so of vinegar. (It's the same acid/base reaction for science project "volcanoes," hence the name.) This scrubs the inside of the pipes and dissolves minor clogs. Let it work its magic for ten minutes or so, then flush it with a potful of water. Boiling water is great, but if you have plastic pipes and are worried about their integrity, warm water usually works too.
Magpie is 16 months old now! She's walking, saying a lot of words that start with "B," signing, and playing with her "babies" (anything from dolls to stuffed animals to Lego figures) for hours at a time. She is also eating her parents out of house and home--little Hobbit usually has a second breakfast, no lie!
