I started thinking about Arachne, and had to get this off my chest, or I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on anything.

CHAPTER 60 SPOILERS like whoa.

This is a wonderful observation, thanks for sharing it! (sorry for the short post, its a bit late for me and my inspiration isn't quite here)

Why thank you! I wasn't sure if anyone would read it, so even a short post is very welcome, especially since you enjoyed it!

Soul Eater has many references to mythology. It's good to see that people are starting to write (mini) essays on it.

I wanna start an essay comm 8D

Oh, I know. I'm mainly good for the Greek myths, but I find the Norse (and other cultural) ones fascinating. I'd love to know more about them. An essay comm would be totally sweet. :)

Thanks for the comment!

Huh, that is rather intriguing! It's when people point out things like this that I wonder if that was intentional by the manga-ka. If so, mad kudos, Ohkubo. And mad props to you, too, for this observation!

Oh, I know. He has so many great references, and it seems like mythology may be an interest of his. I like to think that it was intentional, too, especially since it works out so well in this case. And thank you so very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

(It's really hard to concentrate on typing when Zoro keeps dancing...)

I agree with you on Ohkubo's great references. I mean, at first, when Meduce was introduced, I was internally groaning, thinking "oh, hey ANOTHER female anime/manga villain who has the snake-medusa correlation. How original" but Ohkubo managed to play with the chracters so that the archetype wasn't boring in the least.

And haha, I just finished colouring that avatar yesterday, and I'm also rather attached and distracted by it! Oh, but have you seen the original dance movie from which I took the lineart? It's so awesome; I would have loved to include more of Zoro's dance portion, but there's no way I could have done so and still had it under 40kb for lj. But the whole video is SO MUCH EPIC:

I know, when she first showed up, I thought it would be a butchering of her mythical character, but I was really happily surprised. He seems to strike a nice balance between getting the roots of the character and taking them in new directions. But I wonder if Medusa will finally die if someone beheads her.

I hadn't seen that before; it's so awesome! Nami's face scared me a little, though. Thanks for the link! You did an awesome job with the coloring. :)

Awesome observation. I absolutely love Greek Mythology and its little connections to Soul Eater. Although I have thought of the connections, I haven't thought of them THIS far. Nice job.

Just a little thought: We've met two of the Gorgon Sisters from Soul Eater, both derived/inspired from Greek Mythology, but there's still Arachne & Medusa's other sister. Do you have any thoughts on who she might be?

Thanks a bunch! :3

:) Thank you very much. I've been pretty impressed with how well Soul Eater transfers myths into the storyline, and this just wouldn't leave me alone after I read chapter 60.

The character I'd most like to see is Medea. Not only is her story interesting, but even in myth she's a powerful witch, a descendant of the Sun-god, and has slight associations with dragons a couple of times. I've had a hard time thinking of any other female characters who really stand out. Do you have any speculation?

Thank you so much for the great comment! I'm glad you enjoyed this!
