The holidays are upon us. When I say us, I mean those of us who've damned our souls to hell by working retail. I've been in Christmas mode since just after Halloween. I have to give the store some credit, despite sending us "Jingle" music (gag) in early October, we were not really expected to have it out until after the first of our self- ( Read more... )

But you do have sympathy, even if it is your job. I may have never worked in retail but I worked in hotel and I was ever amazed by the expectations of some people.

"What do you mean you don't have an available room? Do you know who I am?"
"I'm sorry but I wouldn't have a room for the President at this point. There's a broomcloset I can set you up in."

There is no excuse for rudeness or stupidity in any case. In those days (as well as in various other jobs), I was much more likely to be willing to help you if you were nice to me. Otherwise, the bare minimum was all you got.

...At the same time, Christmas stories make me happy that I've never worked in retail ;)
