Chapter Two - Batgirl

"What's Ha-neul's code name going to be, Shin-woo hyung?"
Shin-woo thought about it for a moment. "Batgirl," he said finally.
"Why Batgirl?"
"Just because." - "I'll Be Good For You," Ch. 5

Keeping your relationship secret made it really difficult to go out on dates.

"Are you sure you don't want me to rent out a whole restaurant so that we could be alone?" Kang Shin-woo joked.

His girlfriend, So Ha-neul, gave him a playfully stern look. Her father was a business manager, so she was very conscious about the way celebrities spent their money and uncomfortable with the idea of him spending so much on her. "I'm very sure," she told him. "Besides, there's a lot we can do right here at your house."

They were entering A.N.JELL's private basketball court, tucked in the back of the mansion where the band all lived. Shin-woo thought that he could have closed down an entire restaurant or even an amusement park so that they could enjoy themselves in private, but Ha-neul was happy with just hanging out at home, playing basketball or watching movies. (To be fair, they did go out sometimes, heavily disguised, to eat dukbokki at a street stall or go grocery shopping for food that they cooked at home. Most couples dismissed such dates as commonplace, but it was pretty exciting when you couldn't do it as freely as you liked.)

He dribbled the ball a few times before passing it to his girlfriend. "No elbows," he teased.

"No illegal holding!" Ha-neul retorted.

"That can be for after the game."

She blushed and tossed her head. "Maybe... if I let you win."

"If you let me win?" Shin-woo repeated, raising his eyebrows incredulously. "Bring it on, jock girl."
It was a massacre from start to finish.

Even though she was his girlfriend and there was no doubt that she liked him, Ha-neul was also a former Olympic athlete and very competitive on the basketball court. Fortunately for Shin-woo, he was having a bit of luck with his three-point shots that day; otherwise, he might not have scored at all because Ha-neul guarded the basket as tightly as the security at an A.N.JELL concert.

"I thought you said you were going to let me win?" he huffed after another (futile) attempt to get closer to the basket.

"I didn't say I was going to do it!" she answered, dribbling the basketball that she had just stolen from him. "Just that I was going to think about it."

Shin-woo tried to steal the ball back, but she dodged him nimbly and spun her way to a graceful and uncontested layup. "First one to score thirty points wins, right?" Ha-neul asked cheerfully as the ball sailed cleanly through the net, raising her score to 24.

"Don't remind me," he groaned. He only had 12 points.

She chuckled and passed the basketball to him. He dribbled the ball, shielding it from her with his body and glancing over his shoulder to look out for any opportunity to get past her.

Unfortunately, all he could see was the annoyingly distracting Batman logo splashed across the front of her T-shirt.

He looked away again, reddening. It wasn't that he made a habit of ogling women, even if this one happened to be his girlfriend... it was just that people could get pretty close to each other while playing basketball... and of course she was facing him to keep an eye on what he was doing... and it was a pretty big logo... so it wasn't his fault that it entered his line of vision quite often.

Wasn't it?
Thanks to her defense and her opponent's lackluster play, it came as no surprise that Ha-neul easily won the game. She didn't crow or otherwise rub the victory in his face, but she did allow herself a little victory dance and remembered their running side bet (such as it was) whenever they played basketball. "Now you have to give me my prize."

Shin-woo had to laugh at that. "Are you sure you don't want to clean up and get changed first?"

"What for? It's not like one of us is clean and the other is dirty."

His mildly amused expression turned into a grin. "You seem really impatient for me to kiss you."

Her cheeks turned pink at the teasing remark, but she didn't back down. "Well, if you'd rather I be really impatient to kiss someone else...." Ha-neul sing-songed, making a move to leave.

"I didn't say that." He grabbed her wrist even though he knew that she was only kidding, and pulled her into his arms. "Come here."

At least he got the chance to squash the hell out of that damn Batman logo.

oc, you're beautiful
