Hear, hear.

Unless those in moderate positions really do stake out a positively-defined agenda, all they do is make the world safe for the extremists. Sometimes it's oversight, and sometimes it's the hidden goal, but the end result is the same. So, I'll give more leeway than Dawkins, even. The necessity of a clear position is what's ultimately important, however. I respect people that go that far, and can seek areas of consensus with them. Otherwise, somebody who claims to be moderate is not saying anything better than, "You technically have no right to exist, but don't worry; we won't be the ones who come and hunt you down in the middle of the night. Don't presume to criticize the mob that will, however; any attack on the mob is an attack on us."
