shellic, we watched Roman Holiday at my granddad's house on New Year, and it was so lovely! Absolutely lovely, and cute, and wonderful. Even the ending, it wasn't as bittersweet as I thought it would be. The whole experience was just such a wonderful one for both of them, they could have those lovely memories of a perfect day in Rome and a small summer ( Read more... )

Yay! You make me happy! Now you know why I just love Audrey Hepburn. She is freakin smart, she been through so much, and she has decent values. Her head is screwed on right. She makes a generally good role model. You can find out more about her life in the biography link which I assume you looked at. Unlike SOME people, she grew up diciplined.

And yes, I just love Roman Holiday. They filmed this at a time when filming on location was very rare. Did you know that her reaction when Gregory Peck pulled out his arm from the "Mouth of Truth" was genuine? Seriously, Peck decided to trick her and hide his hand in his sleeve to make it look like it was gone and that was her honest reaction to it ^_^.

That bio is what I was looking at.

And I found a beautiful biography of her at a bookstore over the summer, a tribute, picture biography. It was so excellent, it had pictures of all of her passports, and photos of her work with UNICEF, particularly with orphans in Africa, and I think maybe even pointed out specific stamps in her passport from specific trips.

I love that they actually filmed it in Rome! It's beautiful.

ROFL, no!! I didn't know that was improv!! That's SO cute and funny and excellent.

Gregory Peck is such a stunner.

Would that picture biography happen to be dome by Life? I have a Life picture biography of Katherine Hepburn.

Gregory Peck is another great actor and a great person. He didn't just play Atticus Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird, he IS Atticus Finch.

Don't you just choke up in the last shot of Roman Holiday where he just walks away? We see how grand and huge the palace is and, in a way, it seems to be mocking him as he walks away. You know, making his walk feel much longer than it should be.

No, I think it was maybe this one:

But if not, it wasn't Life, I know.

I didn't want that to be the end, I experience heartache the moment I suspected it would end like that, but I knew it was coming. It was so beautifully tragic, though. Not tragic in a regretful way. In a bittersweet way that I thought was still very satisfying. In a teared-up kind of way.
