My thoughts on Into Darkness from a Trekkie

So my thoughts on Star Trek: Into Darkness. I have a lot of thoughts on this LUL. And yes I realize some of them are over the top but I like Star Trek a LOT ... It is my favorite fandom. Seriously. More than X-files, or Pokemon, or Harry Potter... and that is saying somthing ( Read more... )

I didn't know you were so heavily into Star Trek? Then again, we only just befriended each other recently on LJ. When I was younger I was a big ST:TNG fan ( ... )

Just because you don't collect it, doesn't make you any less of a fan. There are many things I like, I just can't afford to collect it all...;)

No one knows Roddenberry's vision better then himself. The man was way ahead of his time in many ways!

Another person on my f-list is bothered by Spock being "emotional" too. I agree with you, especially after you mentioned Data's development. Data was and still is my favorite ST:TNG character. Sadly, they only have so long to develop a character on screen.

I saw Nemesis on Encore and felt it was alright, but like you said it was lacking a certain feel. I've only seen bits and pieces of Insurrection...

I'm not a trekkie--I've only seen a few ToS episodes and one or two of the movies--so it's interesting to hear a die-hard fan review. Fair warning: I never saw The Wrath of Kahn, so it's highly possible that some of the references in this movie went over my head.

I had some issues with this movie too, but I'm okay with Spock being emotional. It would probably bother me if this was a TV series, but since it's a movie, I'm willing to make some allowances for character development happening "too quickly". After all, assuming the movies keep coming out at the same rate, the characters are only getting 2 hours of screen time every 4 years.

Kronos not having repercussions was one of the main things that bothered me. I admit that I don't know a whole lot about Klingons, but I was under the impression that entering Klingon territory unannounced was kind of a big deal, especially when a random human (who is associated with Kirk's crew, for all the Klingons know) shows up and starts firing on them. How did that not start a war?! I was also a ( ... )

that seems to be the common feeling among the people i know that all the people who are not trekkies like the new spock and those who are find him to be poorly done. But I also agree the idea is that the char development is super accelerated. dosen't mean i have to agree with the way they did it ( ... )

Finally saw the movie so I can come back to this post, haha.

I'm a huge Star Trek fan and basically have the same issues as you with the movie. :/

The director said that he basically doesn't care about Star Trek fans and what they think, and that he doesn't "get" Star Trek or like it, so his only goal is to make a movie that regular movie-goers will enjoy...which he obviously succeeded in, to be fair! But it does mean messing with a lot of characterization and original canon.

I'm still happy about the movies, though, if they get more people interested enough that they go back and watch the TV series. Much like when books get made into movies!
