even tho you and i haven't talked in years, i think we'd be able to pick up a convo in a second. i'm not sure what the political affiliation is like on your campus, but here in TN where our mascot is a "blue raider" and one of our buildings is named after General Nathan Bedford Forrest founder of the KKK i don't get a lot of sympathy for my "pansy, liberal, hand-out, murdering, heathen" views. the worst part is, the people who are so outspoken about hating my views so much (and hating me for that matter) can't hold a simple discussion of any topic. the response is always: "i'm a christian. he's our president. you're a murderer." i miss iowa city. it was so nice to believe that the majority of people in america were smart ...
I haven't heard from you in decades* . You know, you are a frequent person in my dreams and i've wanted to email you but i don't have it. if you know mine, you should send my your address (probably don't do it through LJ).
My campus is ultra liberal. so i'm not nearly in the minority. It must be tough for you down there. I'd like to come see it and try to talk to people like that.
all i have is your old yahoo address which you probably don't use anymore. if you comment me on my lj page, i'll post my email for you. i've got a "friends only" journal, so only people i want to see it can see it.
girl, you do not want to come down here and talk to these people. unfortunately, it gets everyone nowhere. these people think the victims of hurricane katrina "had it coming" because they didn't have the means (money/relatives) to evacuate. it's also still extremely racist here, which was quite a shock when i moved from ultra white iowa!

Well said, of course. I feel like writing things like that all the time but also feel that they will be totally useless. I fail to be an activist because I have pretty much lost all hope in this country redeeming itself. I shouldn't give up but who the hell would read my letter besides my friends? On another note, I miss our big long discussions. When we argue for hours and realize we were arguing the same point but in different ways. This letter reminded me of those. I love you and I miss you! I'm sorry I couldn't call on Sunday night but my mom called and I talked to her and then it was too late to call you. Anyway, rock on, keep it up, nice work, etc.
