Anyone hear that Disney is making a Maleficent movie? Looks to be a retelling of Sleeping Beauty, told from the villain's perspective.

Dude, that's awesome! It's too bad they waited so long to decide to do it, though. It would have been awesome (depending on how old Maleficent is going to be in the movie) to have the original actress do her voice if it were possible. I just watched Sleeping Beauty for the first time in a while last week. I've always thought Maleficent is one of the better Disney villains.

Yes, I would say THE BEST Disney villain! Whoever they got to do the voice of Maleficent for the Disneyland "Fantasmic" show does a great job, but it looks like they have cast Angelina Jolie for the part.

She's tied with Ursula for me. Oh, and mad Madam Mimm, but Mimm is more of a comical Disney villain. So I guess she'd be tied with Cruella DeVil instead.

Hm. I hope that means that Maleficent is just going to be fairly young when the movie takes place and isn't going to be whatever age she was in Sleeping Beauty.

When I was watching the movie and Phillip killed her in her dragon form I was kind of like "...wow, that's kind of a lame death for such a kick-ass villain." Because if you think about it...the fairies were pretty much the ones who even indirectly killed her with their magic. Phillip just threw the sword. And it always bugs me when he's in the dungeon and she's talking to him but he doesn't say a damn thing to her after her monologue...or even for the rest of the movie.

I think it'd be interesting if they did a movie that focused on the good fairies after Maleficent.

Ursula is definitely up there as one of the best. I say Maleficent is the best in sheer wickedness. There is nothing funny about her as she seems purely evil. Very few villains in any film as scary as she was, but you are right about the lame death. Philip was definitely a weak prince, and you are right about the fairies, but you have to give him props for being brave enough to face the witch as a dragon!

And yes, Mad Madam Mimm & Cruella are just amazing in their own right...as comical villains. I would also add The Queen Of Hearts from Alice In Wonderland and Yzma from Emperor's New Groove to that list!
