meh. The only adaptation I actually liked was Return to Oz. I feel that James Franco was horribly miscast.

I love Return To Oz as well. If you don't like the original film starring Judy Garland I can understand why this film wouldn't appeal to you. It seems to pay homage to it stylistically...in that is does the b&w to color, the entrance from the forest to the Emerald City looks similar, and it appears the Wicked Witch will be green. This something that I actually like about what is shown in the trailer though.

I'm actually excited/semi-skeptical about this movie, but I'm definitely going to go see it. I LOVE the Judy Garland version, and Return to Oz and Wicked.

James Franco is...the wizard? Hm. Interesting.

I am a bit skeptical too, but excited at the possibilities. Hope it's a good one!

I'm skeptical too. I thought Alice in Wonderland was going to be a runaway hit, but it just kind of drifted away....I don't know about the rest of you, but I am growing a bit tired of all these dark, "steam-punk-type" versions of the fairy tales.

Is Pinocchio next?

Yeah, I wasn't thrilled with the Tim Burton version of Alice. My favorite live action version is the 1980's TV musical version. :P My parents taped it onto VHS and I grew up watching it. The cartoon will always be my favorite. I've actually found that I'm really usually not fond of Johnny Depp+Tim Burton combinations...I wasn't a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland, wasn't a huge fan of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory...I loved Edward Scissorhands, though, so maybe it's just that combination when it's based on a book/fairy tale.

Haha, possibly. I vaguely remember the version with Johnathan Taylor Thomas (who was like...the main reason i wanted to see that movie, because I LOVED him).

Though there's also that Maleficent movie that's coming out at some point...which I have mixed feelings about. I like the idea of getting to see more of her background as a character, but at the same time I'm still skeptical.
