In all of my viewings of PK Tech Girl, I always read Aeryn's hesitance to shoot the Sheyang in the stairwell as smart, as she already knew what a Sheyang was, and that shooting it in a small place would create a huge fireball and burn her alive. I know the stairwell/catwalk looks really open, but I'm thinking it wasn't meant to be a big open space.
