akinoyama “We’re really sorry, Hika-papa.” It was the three boys’ turn to look down. “We promise, we won’t do this again.”
Hikaru slowly smiled. “I’m not mad, really. I’m just touched by the card, your wish and the drawing.”
The boys quickly looked at Hikaru. “For real??”
Hikaru nodded. He, somehow, could understand his ‘children’ who was raised up without a love from a mother. The boys only had two fathers-Yabu and him-. “If you want, we could celebrate it every year.” He suggested with a genuine smile.
“Are you serious??” Yuuto asked still could not believe. He just thought it would be the first and the last Mother’s Day he could celebrate.
Hikaru smiled again. “I really am. Although I’m a man, somehow, I have a role as your mother here, ain’t I? Besides, I don’t want my dearest children to be sad just because you don’t have a mother and never celebrate Mother’s Day.” He then added “You even may call me Mama during Mother’s Day.”
The boys looked at each other.
“Thank you, Mama.” The boys said happily as they gave him a warm hug in turns.
“Anytime, dear. Anyway, did you cook all of these?” He asked to find another topic to subside the sad atmosphere earlier.
“Kouta-papa and Ryousuke-nii did.” Ryuutarou replied.
“Hmm… They smells good.” Hikaru sincerely complimented even though the food was nothing special like the ones you could eat at the restaurant. It was a simple home-made meals but he could sense love from it.
“And they’re delicious.” Yabu added.
“You’ve eaten? Shouldn’t it be me the first one?”
“I tasted it a bit when we’re cooking, Hikaru.” Yabu defended. “I’m sure no one wants not eatable food for celebration.”
“Nee, papa… can we eat now??? I’m so hungry now after cleaning up this house??” Yuuto pleaded while rubbing his stomach.
“Sure, let’s eat now.” Yabu said.
“Ah by the way, who bought the flowers?”
“Kouta-papa and Ryuu.” Ryousuke answered.
“But… Ryuu is the one picked and arranged them.” Yabu informed. It was still fresh in his mind when he and Ryuutarou fought over what flowers they should buy. He wanted to buy roses but his youngest son kept insisting to buy daisies and sunflowers. “He could run a flower shop in the future, couldn’t he?” The bouquet was really beautiful in colours and well arranged.
“You’re right.” Hikaru agreed, ruffling Ryuutarou’s hair who sat next to him. “It’s beautiful, Ryuu-chan. Thank you.”
Ryuutarou simply smiled while nodding his head.
The Daisies Ryuutarou chose were the gerbera which symbolised cheerfulness and playfulness. That’s how he described Hikaru’s personality. And the bright sunflowers added the cheerful feelings for the bouquet beside showed the secret message they holds -respect and adoration- just like all of his family members’ feeling towards Hikaru.
“Woow… It’s really delicious!” Hikaru complimented when he tasted the miso soup. “You’ll be a good chief later, Ryousuke.”
“You just praised Ryou-chan? How about me?” The head of family slightly complained.
“I don’t think there’s a food you could make…” Hikaru teased. “I bet Ryou-chan is the one who cooked.”
“But I helped him a lot.”
“What did you do?”
“I sliced the meat, tofu and vegetables. I stirred this one too because it’s too heavy for him. Ah and I tasted the food so I could advise him in seasoning.”
“Why do you never do it to me??? You never helped me to cook.”
Yabu did not reply, he just grinned. He simply really liked the excited Hikaru when he was cooking.
“Nee… Hika-pa-,Mama, try this.” Yuuto gave a slice of meat on Hikaru’s bowl.
“You should try this, too, mama.” Ryousuke gave a slice of tamagoyaki.
“Woow.. woow… you two suddenly become care of me.” Hikaru teased. “Ah I wish every day is a Mother’s Day.”
“Then… it won’t a special and fun anymore.” Yabu responded.
The boys could only chuckle, seeing Hikaru pouted.
“Maa… Papa… don’t ruin this day by making Mama pouted.”
Then, they continued their dinner but somehow Yabu noticed that Hikaru was slightly not enjoying his dinner.
“Hikaru, are you okay?”
“Eh? Yes I am.”
“You look like not enjoying the meal. Are you full already?” Yabu explained his curiosity.
“W-well… I’ve already eaten before coming home.” Rules in Yabu’s household -no lies in dining table-
Yabu dropped his chopsticks and everyone stopped eating.
“Papa?”
“If you’re full, then don’t eat.” Yabu scoffed.
“I’m not that full, okay?? I even could take another bowl after this.” Hikaru said although his stomach started to overfull.
“You never had large appetite. You’ll throw up later. Just stop now!” Yabu said in annoyed tone as he stood up, ready for leaving.
“Kou..” Hikaru called and pulled Yabu down to his seat. “You haven’t finished your dinner.”
Yabu looked away but he sat still. Another rules in Yabu’s household -never left before you eat all your meals-
“Kouta…please, don’t be like this in front of them.” Hikaru whispered, reminding him.
Yabu took back his chopsticks and the children resumed their eating with a tense atmosphere.
Hikaru sighed. “I’m really sorry. If I have known, I would not have eaten together with Daiki.”
“It’s not Hika-mama’s fault.” Yuuto tried to comfort.
After finishing his dinner, Hikaru quickly stood up.
“Hika-papa??”
“I’ll be back in 10 minutes.” Only that sentence Hikaru uttered before leaving out the house with his bike.
“Aaahhhh… this is the worst for the first Mother’s Day.” Ryuutarou whined. “I never heard things like this ever happened on the Mother’s Day.”
And that sentence completely ruined the good atmosphere they had earlier.
