akinoyama “Aaahhhh… this is the worst for the first Mother’s Day.” Ryuutarou whined. “I never heard things like this ever happened on the Mother’s Day.”
And that sentence completely ruined the good atmosphere they had earlier.
Ryousuke just took a deep breath. “I’ll clean up this.” He disappointedly said.
Minutes passed and they heard a noisy from their garage.
“Is that Hika-papa?” Ryuutarou questioned.
Ryousuke just finished his cleaning when he heard someone knocked their window glass.
“Hika-papa?” Ryuutarou opened the door in the kitchen as Hikaru only motioned them to go out.
“Hey, let’s play outside.” Hikaru suggested in happy voice.
Ryuutarou tilted his head, staring him in confusion.
“Come on!” Hikaru dragged Ryuutarou out. “You too, guys.” He invited the other three.
“Ah, where’s Kou-papa?” Hikaru noticed there was no presence of him.
“I think in your room.” Yuuto informed.
“Ryou-chan, call Kou-papa to the garden.” Hikaru instructed. “Ah, don’t forget to bring the match when you’re out.”
Yuuto and Ryousuke confusedly looked at each other but obeyed the order.
Yabu lazily stepped out his foot on their small garden where the five of them usually played at or had a barbeque party.
“Hika-papa, this.” Yuuto handed the match.
“Sankyuu…” Hikaru replied and showed them many sparklers. “Let’s play this, tonight.”
The children looked at the shining sparklers Hikaru hold in delight.
“I don’t know if there’s a custom to celebrate this day by playing sparklers. But since I know this is something fun when we did, why not? Take this as my apology as I ruined our dinner.”
“Hika-papa, you’re the best!” The children surrounded Hikaru and gave him a big hug.
Yabu just smiled seeing how happy Hikaru and their children. He felt bad inside after acting childishly when they’re having dinner. He should not have let out his curiosity during the dinner. He should have waited for good.
“Yuuto, don’t let Ryuutarou lit the fire.” Hikaru reminded when the boy lit the sparkler. “He’s still too young.”
Hearing it, Ryuutarou pouted. “I’m 10 years old already! Stop calling me too young!”
Hikaru giggled while seeing Ryuutarou started to spin his sparkle around.
“But, Mama’s right.” Yabu interrupted and snatched Ryuutarou’s sparkler. “See… I can easily take this from you.” He playfully said.
“Give it back, Kou-papa!” Ryuutarou shouted, chasing after Yabu and tried to get his sparkler back.
Hikaru just watched them from afar, deciding to leave them alone. He lied down on the grass, watching the stars silently before closing his eyes for a moment.
“Stop it, papa.” Yuuto approached them.
“For you.” Ryousuke said and handed two sparklers to his little brother, making Ryuutarou grinned happily.
“I hate, Kou-papa!” Ryuutarou stuck out his tongue.
“You’ll forget it tomorrow.” Yabu retorted playfully.
The children then played excitedly. They spin around their sparklers happily while saying ‘It’s beautiful!’ and laughing.
Yabu left the children and silently approached Hikaru. “Suman…” He said, eyes fixing on the children.
Hikaru peeped through one eye, noticing the older man kept his eyes on their children. “It’s fine. I could understand.”
Yabu sighed in relief.
“But, don’t do that again.” This time Hikaru was serious. “You know we can’t fight in front of them, don’t you?” Rules for parents -never fight in front of the children-
Yabu nodded. “Yeah I know. I failed to give them a good example today.” He said sadly. “I just wanted to make them have good memory today, just like any ‘normal’ children.” Yabu reasoned. “I don’t want them to feel what I ever felt.”
Hikaru sat up, taking a deep breath before pulling Yabu to his arms. “You still have many chances, don’t worry.” He soothed, gently stroking the latter’s hair to comfort his feelings. “Although the two of us never could replace a real mother’s role, but I’m sure we still could have possibility to love, protect, and educate them properly, just like any other children.”
“You really think we can?” Yabu asked in doubted as he never knew how mother’s love was. No matter how much he gave his care and affection, he often thought that they would never enough for their children.
Hikaru nodded without hesitation. “Yes. It’s not easy, but as long as I have you, I’m sure we can do it. We can educate them to be good children.”
Yabu slowly smiled, tightening his arms around Hikaru. “Thank you, sweetheart. I felt much better.” He was really thankful to have someone like Hikaru by his side.
“Anyway, have you apologised to them?”
Yabu shook his head.
Hikaru chuckled. “Do that before bed time.” He playfully pinched the nose of the man who was already with him for almost 20 years.
Yabu and Hikaru, hand in hand, watched their little children playing. They let them play until they ran out of sparklers and before it was getting too late for the boys to sleep.
