The quest!

In 1990, a movie was made called, "Akira Kurosawa's Dreams". Has anyone ever heard of it/seen it? If so, was it any good? I've been trying to find it, but have had difficulty.

Dreams is incredible sumpin August 22 2004, 19:19:11 UTC
Dreams is a collection of short films and is absolutely beautiful. It should not be hard to get on dvd i have seen it everywhere i have gone to get dvds, well any place that sells foreign films and anime always carry his films. It is not a criterion collection though so dont expect to pay much, i think it was $15 when i got it when they released it on dvd, it might be cheaper now. In my opinion i say buy it and watch it asap if you like Kurosawa.

dreams is perhaps my favorite kurosawa film. certain of them are amazing, my favorite is of the man in the old fashioned village.

oh, my Japanese teacher who grew up in Japan told me that he made "dreams" right before he went crazy, and if you watch it, no matter how beautiful of a movie it is, it fits well with what she said.

most definitely watch it.

Whatever you do, don't try and force yourself to sit through it, because that could ruin the whole experience for you. I watched it twice: the first time it was one the day after I first saw the Seven Samurai - needless to say, I was underwhelmed - and the second time I saw it, was after revisiting Samurai and watching Rashomon, Ran, Kagemusha and Dersu Uzala. I watched Dreams a second time...and its sheer spirituality completely baffled me and kept me interested from beginning to end.

But Dreams is not "A Movie" in any sense...it's like a painting that's come to life and, in my opinion, it should be treated that way.
