Hi there. I´have been a fan of Kurosawa*s since college and one of my favorite things about him is his interest in Shakespeare. I am really interested to see how Kurosawa, Shakespeares plays and Japanese culture intersect

I don't want to endlessly harp on the commentary tracks on the Criterion Collection DVDs, but there may be some mention there. Specifically, she may be an archetype from the Noh drama, but I can't recall which and I'm no expert on Noh. I hope it's a vague arm-wave in the right direction!
