A roll of old "oxygen tubing" or "aquarium air line" and some reducers from garden hose fittings> tubing diameter is the pinholed tube hack's basis.
Dollar/thrift store scavenges kit has given bountiful harvests in damn arid areas.

no hose hookup out front at all.
everything is in bins and planters since it is all on a sidewalk in front of my house. i have no front yard in any way shape or form. just a wide swath of sidewalk.
I never spray water on plants in the day time ever. when i water i water at night. usually right after sun set. as it is when i water the planters i water the soil itself not over the plants. the rains can wash them. the only time i dump water on them really is when i am applying Neem Oil or some other thing to keep bugs away and keep mold at bay.
the bins actually have water resevours in them. at least most do. pin pricked three and two liter bottles buried in the soil which slowly releases the water. it was not enough for those 100 degree plus days even with extra watering at night. we are not normally this arid at all. but the heat wave also had a LOT of wind so evaporation was insane. just insane. I lost a half a foot of water in my pond alone.
