Fanfic: "Possessive"

Apr 14, 2006 16:57

First time poster; please forgive me if there is any roughness to the story. And props to squirrelarmy for her gentle encouragement to get me to write.

Title: Possessive
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Everything pre-Episode 20 (and heck, maybe even the end of the series, too).
Pairing: Takumi x Akira

Once they returned from America and resumed their studies, Akira found her ex-roommate had become the newly-crowned bishounen of their class.

And it pissed her off to high heaven.

Not because he stole her previously held title; it meant less than nothing. Not because he was suddenly the center of attention during lunch; she was happy to see him break free of his usual shyness (and even more satisfied that all the focus she used to receive had now transferred into his hands). Not even because, due to his popularity, it was harder to find time during class to talk with him.

No, the reason was much more simple and primal than that.

“Tokiha-kun, will you please tutor me after class? I promise I’ll make it worth your while!”

“Tokiha-kun, I want to learn how to make those delicious cupcakes for my future boyfriend! Can I practice on you?”

“Tokiha-kun, you have the sweetest smile in the world. Would you take a picture or two with me?”

Akira gritted her teeth and tried not to break the pencil she held in her hand.

Much to her dismay, the ex-HiME had a possessive streak a mile wide, and her female classmates were trampling all over it. Everyone knew she was with Takumi; he had mentioned to one of their guy-friends that he was serious about Akira, and the news had spread like wildfire through their grade. She had even gotten into the habit of wearing the girls’ uniform. There was to be no confusion whatsoever about what relationship Akira and Takumi had.

“Oh, you’re busy tomorrow? Is it anything important, because I’d really love to have you come to my party?”

Justifiable homicide, that’s what they’ll call it, she scowled from behind a sketchpad.

It wasn’t as if Takumi was encouraging it; mostly, he was ignorant of their schemes. He was just being himself - affectionate and open-hearted, chatting with all the girls as if they were the most important person in the world when they had his attention. He didn’t see the batted eyelashes, the hiked-up skirts, or the unbuttoned tops that left many a boy with a nosebleed. If she didn’t know better, Akira would have guessed he was either gay or sexually undeveloped.

Because as much as she hated to admit it, there were some pretty girls in their class. Ones who actually looked and acted like girls were supposed to. Ones who seemed willing enough to indulge in some “after-school activities” with the innocent Tokiha boy. And maybe even one or two who saw beyond his handsome features and recognized the same traits Akira herself loved, and wanted him for their own.

At least the latter reason she could respect, but she sure as hell didn’t have to like it.

But, contrary to her own nature, Akira let them get away with it. The thought of draping her arms over Takumi’s shoulders and glaring Elemental daggers into the foreheads of any offending tramps brought her an insane amount of pleasure, yet all she did was sit back and watch the scenes with a dispassionate eye, seemingly unconcerned about his newfound glory.

And really, she was.

Because I trust him. I trusted him with my secrets and my life, as he trusted me. Why should I doubt his heart now, when it had never wavered in the first place?

So she let them flirt and tease the sky-eyed boy. She had faith in Takumi, and considered herself bigger than anything they did to try and snare him away.

Still… Akira wasn’t too proud to admit that she truly relished the sight of those pretty girls’ faces as they watched her walk out of the classroom with Takumi’s hand at the small of her back.
