Okay. I've finished reading a pretty recently-published book on a Renaissance composer, and I thought I would try to write a review about it. But the book makes a lot of presumptions about its audience, so reviewing the book is to be hard without getting a running start ( Read more... )

It doesn't sound baroque to me. It's lovely.

I've always thought that Gesualdo was at least a century ahead of his time. I agree that it's his use of chromatics that gives his music a more modern feeling. I have to admit I've never cared that much for his work.

I don't generally care for Gesualdo because the chromaticism feels gratuitous sometimes, but this piece is lovely. It feels more modern than the dates would imply, but we already knew that about him. :-)

I'm a little behind here. Just catching up. I gotta say I feel like I just spent three minutes staring at a piece of modern art. It definitely sounds modern. I can admire it for its theoretical value. I'm not gonna sign up to be a fan on his Facebook page... ;)

Sadness. I just didn't quite get the gist of how the chromatic mix would sound by looking at the sheet music, and the performance link didn't work.
