I met Orla in Boston a couple of months before her murder through mutual friends, she was kind, sweet & beautiful, just one of the nicest people you could meet. I will never forget the horror of what happened to her and seeing Rosario being interviewed by the park the following day with a smile on his face saying things like that didn't happen in that community, well they did. That interview was shown over & over again following his arrest. We were all so young & carefree before that & clung to each other in shock & grief, she deserved to live a full and happy life, but it was stolen in the most awful way. Even now, I can't really express how much her death pains me, it was only 3 days before she was to return home, 3 days. Rest in Peace Orla. My sincere condolences to her parents, brother, extended family & friends
I too knew Orla in DCU. She was wonderful. I still often google her and the scholarships in her name. I was unable to attend her funeral as i was travelling at the time. I wanted to pass my condolences to her family and all those who mourn her.

I made a promise to myself that I would think of Orla every time the song "Dancing Queen" came on. I have a particular memory of Orla dancing to that song downstairs in the Kells that summer. It just came on the radio, so I thought of her as I always do and I got sad as I always do. Sometimes I google her and sometimes I find this page and think of commenting. So today's the day I decide to post a comment. RIP Orla. Eoin.
i am so glad you commented. although i did not personally know Orla, her murder has had a profound effect on me. so many people who knew and loved her have commented on my posts about her. so many people loved her dearly and miss her so. i sit here in disbelief that 1995 was 25 years ago. Orla will not be forgotten.

I was about 13 years old when this happened a friendly cop told my mother to keep my little sister away from the club for a couple of days. I lived and breathed that area at that time, but now I don't wish to ever go back there. I didn't know this girl my sister's swim-team collegue knew the offender. As I get older I reminisce about the whole situation, and think more clearly about the people around us. Truly this has changed my life in the end we are sheep among wolves..
