Summary: During middle school, Nino rejected a confession from his underclassman for a very trivial reason - “I don’t date someone shorted than me”. What will happen when they see each other after 3 years.
Act 1: Rooftop
“Oi, Nino-chan!” Nino rolled his eyes and kept on walking, “hey!!!”
“What?”Nino looked back, “You’re noisy, Aibaka!”
“What’s with you, didn’t you hear me calling?” Aiba asked.
“What do you want?” Nino asked feeling irritated.
“Walking alone, I see. Where’s Ai-chan, are you meeting with here somewhere?” Aiba asked while looking around the vicinity.
“We broke-up.” Nino said nonchalantly.
“Eh, already? That’s a bummer, she’s a cutie.” Aiba commented, “Anyway, you’ll have a new one before the day end.”
“Whatever” Nino flatly said, opening his locker to change into his indoor shoes.
“Ah, as expected” Aiba proudly state, there’s an envelope atop Nino’s shoes.
Nino took the envelope, white? - It’s often pink or floral. He opened the envelope and hurriedly took the letter out.
‘Meet me at the roof-top at lunchtime.’
“Wow, isn’t that a bit bold?” Aiba commented.
“Hey, don’t read someone else’s letter.” Nino said, pushing Aiba out of his way.
“Ehhh, but you didn’t mind me reading them before.”
“Shut-up!” Nino angrily yelled, leaving Aiba who’s still putting on his shoes.
“Wait for me!” Aiba sloppily wore his shoes and run after his best friend.
Ninomiya Kazunari often called Nino by his peers, is a very popular middle school student, being part of the school’s baseball team, and well liked by almost everyone in school.
He received letters almost every day, asking him for a private moment. Usually they meet at a back of the school building where they confess their feelings to them. Nino usually would agree to go out when the girl is cute, but he would always it clear to whomever he was dating that his priority was baseball - they would be willing at first but eventually complain about not having time together and soon break-up. It was a cycle, and Nino didn’t mind, much.
And the confession from sender of the white envelope will not be any different.
Bell rings
Nino hurriedly left the classroom before Aibaka noticed - his best friend can be annoying whenever Nino gets a new confession after a break-up.
He climbed the stairs and after two floors he got a bit irritated. What kind of girl confesses at the rooftop? - laughing a bit at the idea.
When he got to the rooftop, it was empty, which was typical for the girls confessing - they get all worried and took some time to think over what they wanted to say, well that was according to his ex.
Sadly, lunch time was almost over and no one seems to be coming over, “Well I guess she chickened-out” he said to himself out loud. “Ah~ I can’t believe I waited this long.” He was about to leave when the door burst open - a kouhai, maybe 2 years younger than him was out of breath from running, Nino supposed.
“Ninomiya-san…you’re still here~”
“What?” Nino was pissed; he thought that he was being played for a fool.
“No no no…I mean you really came.”
“What the hell?” Nino was really losing his temper, “Who are you and who sent you?”
“No what I mean is…uhm…please go out with me?”
“Is this some kind of a joke?
“No, I’m serious, Ninomiya-san. I really like you. Please go out with me?”
“What’s your name?”
“Ah, yes, sorry, I’m Matsumoto Jun of class 3.”
“Sorry, Jun, but I cannot date you.”
“Why not?”
Door slammed
“Oi, Nino!” Aiba yelled, “We’ll be late.”
“Coming” Nino responded and walked towards Aiba.
As always Aibaka comes blasting at the most awkward situation but this time Nino was saved by his best friend’s lack of sensibility.
“Sorry but I don’t want a boyfriend shorter than me.” Nino whispered to Jun before walking towards Aiba.
“So do you have a new girlfriend? Was she cute? Tell me” Aiba relentlessly questioned.
“Did you see a girl up there?” Nino responded.
“What you got stood up by a girl? Poor, Nino-chan.” Aiba teased and laughed at Nino, as they go back to their classroom.
