Attention Alaskans!

Sep 13, 2008 20:37

So, this is from my sister (the big time writer who lives in NYC now)... She is looking for input from Alaskans... So I have included her request e-mail... I'd really appreciate it if anyone who felt like it would leave a comment, or if you feel like being more anonymous, message me. It would be great! Thank you!

I would, but unfortunately I have no idea how to skin a moose (still want to learn though, but not while I'm pg lol). I've heard moose nose soup is divine, though. Good luck to her.

Ask someone who hunts. It's not all that hard. One time we pulled it off with a backhoe. Don't ask...

And no, of course they're not getting an accurate portrayal of the state. Everything is about how "small" Wasilla is, regardless of the fact that the Valley (Wasilla, Palmer and outlying residential areas) is the fastest-growing area in the state. Everyone wants to talk about hockey moms, the Iron Dog, and mooseburgers. It's the same stereotypical, quaint, "Northern Exposure" type bullshit we always get subjected to in the media.

Sarah Palin, of course, is eating it up. Tell your sister to read the news. There should be plenty there for her to gain info from.

You poop! You know she needs directs quotes though for this article to be anything, otherwise it's a glorified blog she'd be trying to get published!
Just putting it out there for Lis.

I just don't know where she'd get direct quotes from anyone we know that aren't something similar to what people who have already been interviewed have said. She could try hitting up the News-Miner, ADN and Mat-Valley Frontiersman reporters to get quotes on what the general atmosphere is like up here. They could probably give her some statistics and point her in the direction of how to get a hold of the Gov.'s office and people like the librarians in Wasilla. When we were working with the media at the Fair, the best thing to do was to send them straight to the top, that way no underdogs got in trouble for giving quotes to the media instead of passing them on to the high mucky-mucks. That's probably what she's going to run into in general trying to get info about this.
