Pairing: Faith/Dawn

A/N: I've never written anything from Joss-verse before, and can barely remember s7 Buffy at all (didn't like it, watched it once on TV and never again) so please excuse any canon errors.
Dawn sat silently in the corner. The house was full of girls - some her age, some older - and all of these girls were meant to be special, just like Buffy. She watched as they fumbled through training. She could handle the weapons better than half of them, yet she wasn’t allowed to touch. She wasn’t special. She should just keep out of everyone’s way. Buffy had told her that enough times. She sighed, part frustration, part loneliness, and stood up to head upstairs. At least in her room she could get some alone time. She felt a hand on her shoulder as she made it to the bottom of the stairs. The grip was strong, stronger than a normal girl. “For God’s sake, Buffy, I’m staying out of the way!” she whined, whirling around. Only it wasn’t Buffy. She kept forgetting there were now two slayers in the house. She gave Faith a sheepish grin and shrugged. “Sorry. Habit.”
Faith gave her a knowing look - she knew better than most exactly what a pain in the ass Buffy could be - and held out her hand. “Come on kid, I need your help. Some of these girls have never handled a weapon before.”
Dawn looked at her for a long moment wondering if she was joking or not. “Me?”
“Sure, why not? You’ve been around ‘em for long enough. I’m sure you know the basics at least.”
She grinned wide and nodded enthusiastically. “I do. And you’ll really let me help?”
Faith nodded and leaned in conspiratorially. “Just promise me you won’t tell Buffy,” she said with a wink.
“Cross my heart,” Dawn replied with an excited squeak. She took the slayer’s outstretched hand and headed out to the back yard. Sometimes she didn’t feel so ordinary. When Faith smiled at her, she felt positively special.
