A/N #2:
heyuwiththeface has posted another fic in the same 'verse, set 18 years earlier here.

Liz sat at the dining table sorting through piles of photographs that covered the entire space. She glanced up as Casey made her way down the stairs with another box. “If you think that is coming anywhere near this table, you are mistaken,” she said, glaring at her. “And what in God’s name possessed you to chose the dining table for this little project. Where are we meant to eat?”

”On the couch,” Casey smirked, plopping the extra box on a dining chair and beginning to sift through it. “These are mostly Lara’s school photos and diving competitions,” she said. “Up until about thirteen, I’d say.”

”That’s lovely, darling. Now get them away from here. I’ve got a system and if you mess it up I may have to kill you.” Liz’s head was buried in the piles again, sifting through the countless photos of their daughter growing up. “You know there are people we can pay to do this for us.”

“So you’ve mentioned,” Casey replied, absently playing with the frayed hem of her jeans while she looked over the photos spread in front of her. “A number of times, in fact. But Lara will appreciate the effort we’ve gone to. And besides, retiree’s need hobbies to keep their minds active,” she teased, keeping her voice even.

”Just because I have stepped down from the bench does not mean I can’t dish out my own punishments,” she reminded her. “And I believe lecturing a few classes a week exempts me from being a retiree just yet.” She pulled out a photo of four-year-old Lara dripping ice cream on Casey’s head as her mother gave her a piggyback ride at Disney world. “Do you think she remembers our honeymoon?” she asked. They had spent three days in Disney for Lara, and two weeks in Italy.

“She remembers the boy from the village that had a crush on her,” Casey chuckled. “It’s hard to imagine her that young anymore…” She sighed happily and stood up, looking over the blonde’s shoulder. “The prom photo with Sarah needs to go in,” she said as she reached for it.

Liz sharply tapped her hand and shooed her away from the table. “How many times do I need to tell you, I have a system…”

Casey laughed as she walked away. She knew as much as Liz was making a fuss, she was quietly enjoying selecting the photos for their daughters 21st birthday. They had enlisted the help of two of Lara’s art school friends to put the photos together, but they still had to sift through the hundreds of pictures and the deadline was fast approaching. The redhead looked up from her paperwork at a sudden laugh from her wife and cocked her head, moving closer so she could see what she had in her hand.

”My first birthday after we married,” she said, holding up a photo of the cake with the little girl’s icing covered face and hands behind it. The cake had ‘Happy Birthday’ written in perfect lettering, then ‘MAMA WIZ!!” underneath, carved by Lara’s fingers with a little help from Casey. “I think that was the first birthday cake I had in at least twenty years.”

Casey smiled as she wrapped her arms around Liz’s shoulders. “Do you remember what I gave you that year?” she asked, nipping lightly at her ear.

“Mmm…” Liz smiled, enjoying the memory. “A child free weekend.” She chuckled lightly. “We spent years looking forward to some time on our own, and now we look forward to when she comes home.” She turned her head and caught Casey’s lips in a quick kiss. “I think I’m done for the night,” she smiled. “Have you heard back from the realtor?”

Casey shook her head. “No. But I wasn’t expecting to until tomorrow. Are you sure it’s not too much?”

“Actually it’s much less than I was expecting to pay and much less than it will be worth once she sets it up as a gallery. And we can finally reclaim our attic now that she will have her own studio.”

”I meant as a birthday present,” Casey smiled, shaking her head at Liz. “An art gallery and studio is a lot for a twenty-one year old.”

“If she were a spoiled little brat I would agree with you,” she said. “But I can not remember the last time she asked for anything, and she still spends money like a student putting herself through college. I think she has earned it.” In truth, Liz was so proud of how Lara had grown in the past three years, and how exceptional her art was that she would have given her anything to support that.

Casey stood back and held her hand out for Liz. “I think it’s bed time,” she said. “Before you go and buy her half of New York City,” she added with a smirk, kissing her cheek lightly. “And if we ever have grandkids, I’m giving you an allowance to stick to.”

Liz just raised her eyebrow and made her way upstairs to their bedroom. “I think you might need reminding of just how this family runs,” she said with a smirk. “Why don’t you come here and I’ll give you a refresher.” They very rarely played as hard as they used to, but it was so ingrained in their sexuality that they would never be able to give it up completely.

Casey stepped up in front of Liz, fingers making easy work of the buttons on her partners blouse as her eyes gleamed playfully. “Yes ma’am.”

The blonde just chuckled and smacked her on the ass. “Get in to bed.” She turned out the lights and slipped in next to her, a contented smile gracing her lips as she leaned in for a slow, deep kiss.
