SHE IS ALIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!!!! I think that tumblr is the new hotness? I wouldn't know, I am really bad with trends but still HAPPY THAT YOU POSTED!!!
And I am actually old and domesticated now You can start wondering about your life once you start looking at knitting magazines
I am alive! And thanks for the welcome back--it's good to be back. I have really, really missed being around creative, engaged people, more than I can say.
I don't know that I will ever be a knitter, but damn if I don't know my knitted fabrics now... It'll be interesting to see how much my real living space lives up to what I have envisioned in my head.
It's not so much LJ is dead as it is that fandom went off in every which direction; some stayed here, some moved to Dreamwidth, some to Twitter and some are living on Tumblr. On the blogs I've noticed a considerable downturn in content1, but once the shiny of Tumblr fades & it's lack of ability to have a conversation on it has worn thin, people will drift back. Also it seems that the most popular fandom these days (based on what the majority of my once multi-fannish f-list now posts about) is Teen Wolf. I have no interest in it, regardless of how slashy it is.
Egads. Another sign of my age and impending domesticity: not only do I not give a hoot about Tumblr, I really wish I could go back in time to the old fandoms--Saiyuki, HP, M/K. (And god help us all, I had a hard time remembering the other day if it was MKRA or MKLA. In fact, I'm having a hard time distinguishing between r's and l's in a lot of contexts these days...this is what Japanese does to you, apparently...)
I really hope fandom returns to a more text-centric medium, because I deeply miss THE DISCUSSIONS.
Wow!!!!! I figured you'd just kinda moved on, but I'm tickled to see that's not so. Sounds like things have been gruesome :-( but now looking up!!
I'm still here - I read daily but post more like weekly. I'm knee-deep in fandom. I do have a tumblr, but I don't actually write on it, I just play with the pretty pictures.
Becca's starting senior year of HS, Ethan fourth grade.
Oh man, gruesome is an understatement. And the sad thing is that things aren't getting better so much as I am removing myself from a deeply awful situation. Although, that said, this is a skill I definitely lacked in the past, so on a personal level it is probably an improvement...
Glad to know you are still around! It's nice to know that people are still there, especially because so many of the people I talked to five years ago seem to have dropped off the face of the earth. (To be fair, I was one of them myself, so I can't really talk...) It is amazing to think that Becca and Ethan are that old--everything is sort of frozen in time for me. How are they liking school?
And karate is good. Very, very good. I'm hoping to get back into aikido myself if I can find a reasonably priced dojo within metro distance.
One Piece is a lovely obsession to have--I may even revive it myself if I ever manage to get my tankoubon out of storage.
What BL manga do you recommend these days? I was far more into shousetsu when I last left Japan, so I'm not even aware of what's out there anymore...
And I will very much enjoy the move. I haven't been this excited about something in ages. Speaking of, let me know if you're ever in the DC area in the future. ^^
Oh, do join us in the One Piece discussions! I love comments.
I can't say I'm keeping up with the latest in BL, more just trying to read through my own backlog in no particular order (and my backlog ranges over the years 2006-2011, or even earlier). If you click on my manga review or "dog ate my homework" tags, you'll find the ones I was discussing. I want to get back to the BL manga backlog project, but the One Piece re-read is temporarily sucking up all my manga energy.
Will definitely let you know next time I'm down in DC! Probably Christmastime.
Thanks, and yes, it's amazing how much better life has been now that I am out. I anticipate it improving even more once my Internet is hooked up.
It's interesting, but a few other fandom friends have the same comments about tumblr. I've never used it but wonder if I should get an account if for no other reason than to stave off becoming an Internet luddite.

I even occasionally talk BL manga when I can find time in between the One Piece posts.
Good to see you're still around! Enjoy the move to new digs.
