As for cars, I recommend SATURNS (seriously). I would go for a SC1 or SC2...even an SL2 from the years 1996+ I had a 1997 Saturn SC1 I used to race...and it was the best coupe I have ever owned! It now currently resides in the UK with my business partner - Never has had major repair. Saturns from 1996-1998 are the best, and rated to late 250,000-300,000 miles before major servicing ( ... )

Saturns are good. So are Subarus. Saturns are hard to find in that range though, unless prices have changed since Krystina and I bought our Subaru in July. We tried very hard to find a decent Saturn in almost that exact range, but to no avail. I know with the newer VW's, if they DO need engine work, it's a pain in the butt and really expensive since everything is imported from Germany. Friend of mine needed a radiator hose for his sisters 2001 VW and his 1964 Mustang at the same time. His hose cost $9. Hers cost $240.

autotrader.com and cars.com are your friends. As is MSN Auto for reviews - both by editors and by actual drivers
