I have an appointment with my shrink today. Its been 3.5 months since I've gone in to see him. I think he will be pleased that I am still doing very well, and have not had any real anxiety attacks or major depressive episodes in a long while. I still feel anxiety when something "major" happens, but I'm now able to talk myself down rather than ( Read more... )

I disagree. Having almost committed suicide in October of 2002, I needed professional help, no amount of positive thinking or good healthy drinks would have brought me to where I am today. I may not be here today had I not reached out to professional doctors who knew more about me than I knew of myself.

With the aid of medicine working on the little conductors in the brain, I have been able to refocus the last three years and educate myself of how to help myself. I am now in the best shape, mentally, then I have EVER been. Soon I will be able to be off the meds and on my own. Just not yet though.

I agree. I did a round with the meds back in 2000 - and they helped break the depression cycle so that I could get a grip on my thoughts and emotions. A few months later I did another round for good measure. I KNOW they made a difference for me. Maybe a few years of counseling would have done the same thing but frankly feeling better in a few weeks, as opposed to a few years was much easier on my spirit, my family, my personal life, my work, and my wallet.

Now I am more balanced and a fruit smoothie and a chunk of good chocolate will take care of most any emotional downer that might come along. {{huggs}}

I think the fact that you are able to see that you were to a point that you needed an intervention, be it pills, or counciling, says alot about you. Not alot of people are strong enough to admit it when they need help. I am glad you got the help that you needed and that you benefited from it so well.

Question...i am not sure what you are still taking now...but how do those drugs interact with things like pregnacy and such, i mean since you are trying to concieve right now.

I'm taking Lexapro, which is in the same family as Paxil, Zoloft, and Prozac. The difference between Lexapro and the other 3 is that it has less side effects because it has less junk in it than the others. I hardly had any side effects when I started them. Honestly as far as pregnancy, I don't know. The only think I know about it is that this medicine does interact withy breast milk when the mother is taking the medicine and breast feeding at the same time. So if I become pregnant I will have to stop it anyway and try something else "safer" to pregnancy. So to answer your question, I do not know if it affects me and my girl parts in relation to trying to get pregnant. This is a good question. I'm going to call my doctor on Tuesday. The website, www.lexapro.com doesn't offer in depth information regarding this.
