If I was a Yankees fan I would be scared to death of losing Joe Torre. He's the manager that made the team a dynasty and he's the one that rescued their disastrous 2005 season. The past couple years the Yankees have been flopping and then Joe Torre makes a speach to rally the team and they start winning. I'm not so sure Lou could do that. He doesn't have the timing and he'd only be one more big ego to add to the mix that the Yankees already have.
How'd Torre rescue 2005? Miracles from Shawn Chacon, Aaron Small, and Al Leiter rescued 2005. Torre is the Yankees Francona. Free pass on everything because he won 4 WS, the last one being 6 years ago.
I'm pretty sure there are a whole lot of Yankees fans and baseball fans in general who would disagree with you. If Torre didn't rescue '05 then why was everybody saying he should be manager of the year?
I thought Eric Wedge should be the manager of the year in 2005, so I don't know. Even though the Yankees lost a lot of rotation guys they never lost any of their offense. It's not surprising the the Yanks were able to slug themselves to an AL East title. I do know that he routinely over works his bullpen and plays favorites though.
I can't really point out a specific incident in 2005. It was one of his better years. He seemed pretty determined to shove Womack down our throats as a lead off hitter.
