You're right about the discrimmination. Check your contract. If they did not specify a dress code mentioning hair then they can't do anything. I'm an assistant headteacher and have 2 nose piercings, a labret piercing and dreads. Tell them to fuck off!!!! Take them to the European courts.

The apearance thing does suck big time! I started work in 4 star hotel as part of my degree course back in August. I had my braids in which were neat and tied back, and my hand piercing in which was covered with a plaster. On my first day they sent me home to take it all out which I did. It did state in the contract that I had to have brushed hair. I wasn't actually given the contract until a month later but I still took it all out because my degree was at steak. Few months later I left that dive and the braids are back, messier than ever and the piercing will be back once I start uni again! What I did find quite funny was that while I was there, they employed a black girl with braids.
Ah well they all suck and you are very lucky if you find an accepting employer. Hoo ra for elysiumangel, go you!

My contract of employment only refers to piercings as a health n safety hazard, which is understandable in my line of work.
Doesn't state anything about haircuts tho!! I mean, it's not like I'm going to work with neon dreads n falls on my mop ^_^ LOL!
Ah well, no-one has said anything about it since so I'll leave the matter in a state of limbo unless it becomes an issue again :)
