There's a lot I've been thinking lately, partly because I've been reading a lot. I've picked up G. K. Chesterton's The Man who was Thursday and I'm only five chapters in, but I'm really enjoying it so far. I'm quite curious to see where it's going. What you're talking about is called Determinism in philosophy. The trouble you seem to have reconciling it with Free Will is a divide in the Determinism community. Basically, there are people who can integrate the idea of free will with the concept of Determinism, and there are those who can't.

hell no!

despite what the biologically inclined, and the skinnerites will tell you people have free will. biological factors dont dictate what people do, they just influence our behavior. dont worry, despite the newest argument of those on the nature side, humans still have free will, no matter how many of us decide not to use it.
