Elections Never Seen

The last election day I remember clearly  participating in was the 1992 Presidential contest.  It  was capped by a stunning and hope filled evening, though marred by touches of the Flowers and other scandals drawn up as the pundits reviewed the race.  Two young couples facing outward in an arc on that well lit stage which, if I remember correctly, ( Read more... )

1992 was also the last time I was actually really involved in a campaign. I did some phone-bank work in West L.A., and helped with some rallies in Santa Monica (at one of which the featured speaker was, I kid you not, Cheryl Ladd). I was a precinct captain and did some GOTV for a while, too. One of the names on my phone list was Marlee Matlin. I imagine I would have needed a TTY for her.

That election was not just for Clinton-Gore, but also to get Feinstein and Boxer elected. I remember they were prominently mentioned in the script we were given. I gave it my best.

I wanted dearly to do some phone-bank work for Obama this time around, and kept getting texts telling when and where, but my voice just didn't come back well enough for me to do it.

The first time I ever did GOTV was also the first presidential election in which I voted. That one was 1972, and it was for McGovern, or more precisely, against Nixon.

I have been voting since the 1980 elections, yup Reagen and Carter. Obviously I voted Carter. I was in high school at the time and I was asked if I wanted to register, right in school. I have been voting blue ever since. True, they did not always win until Clinton, but I al least did it.
