I've used Enterprise many times without incident. That said, I rented from Horizon in North Hollywood a few weeks ago, because the shop that was fixing my car had a deal with them (including free pick-up) and I only needed it for a day. They charge per 24-hour period, so I rented it at 11:00 a.m. and returned it at 8:00 the next day and paid for only one day.

Yes, we ran into something similar where we wound up paying for an extra rental car day because we couldn't have it back by 10AM on day two. Ok, my thinking is that if I pick up a rental car at 6PM on Monday for two days rental I should have until 6PM on Wed. with the car. No, I only have until 10AM on Wed. Well, with where we were staying on Tuesday night and then trying to get into the Denvention hotel and checked in with our schload of stuff, we weren't going to make 10AM no way, no how. (We don't do mornings on vacation!) So we opted for paying for the third day, but it was annoying. Our schedule would have allowed us to get the car back by 3 or 4 in the afternoon no problem. Seemed like under 48 hours worth of rental to me, but what do I know?

I can picture your mother talking them down the 40 cents. Well, she didn't win exactly, but they still didn't know what hit them. ;)

Once I had to fly to Colorado Springs, in a snow storm, to attend a wedding. I was stuck in Denver for several hours and, after the 18 minute flight to CS, I found that my rental had been cancelled AND there was no record of my reservation having ever existed! Apparently it was cancelled because I was late. HELLO it's only a f-ing blizzard!
