Well, after reading that a couple of folks on LJ don't think that much of the Mish and that liking them is to being stuck in puberty, us immature folk
Skean,
Xeeny and
Alacerus decided it might be worth regressing to that age and going to see there last gig.
And what a gig it was, just as a performance it was probably one of the best live shows I've seen.
I met Ant & Beng there having spent the time since Wednesday recovering from having my Wisdom extracted, I was all grumpy and not in the mood for it at all. A long journey up with the London Underground was rewarded by getting there on time. Unfortunately
Skean had bought his ticket way before
Xeeny and moi, so he was in the standing section, whilst me and Ant were stuck in the clouds up on level three. All things considered it was a blessing as I was rather frail, it was not crowded and the bar was easy access all evening.
They kicked off with Amelia, then went straight into Hands Across the Ocean, then into Into the Blue, Butterfly on a Wheel and Sea of Love. Then Wayne did a short solo acoustic set ("I know a lot of you think this songs a bit shit...") of Grapes of Wrath and Lovely. Then the other band members rejoined for a song off the new album, freeing up Wayne for a bit of a break. This concluded the first part and they broke for 5.
Back on stage they kicked off with Like a Hurricane, Belief, Paradise will Shine like the Moon and Hungry as the hunter, with Simon Hinkler turning up for a guest spot on the last two. They ended that session on Deliverance which was top, everyone standing. Whilst they broke for five the crowd amused them selves with continual chanting to the end of Deliverance which went on for 5 minutes.
More beer and Wayne walks back on stage with a "That's more fucking like it. It's my wedding anniversary tomorrow, what a way to celebrate". They kicked off this next Session with Miles Hunt and Erica Knockalls joining for the long awaited version of Mr.Pleasant and then Like a Child Again. It gets a bit blurry from here on at 5 pints plus. I think they did Garden of Delight, then Over the Hills and Far Away and Dance on Glass. Another break.
Then they came back on to rapturous applause to finish on Tower of Strength. I'm not sure thats all the songs, but they did a two-and-a-half hour set which is killer.
All very happy a had-enough-beer-to-numb-the-pain
Alacerus, a utterly-shitfaced
Xeeny and a been-in-a-mosh-pit-so-couldn't-get-a-pint
Skean all met up outside rather chuffed for having gone. Happy, the journey home was a two-and-a-half hour train (with no toilets to Xeeny's delight), bus and walk home.
Saw Jumper this afternoon with
Skean (ta for the ticket geez!) which is quite good. If you leave your brain in your posterior and become a popcorn munching zombie. It had some really nice sequences and is really very pretty, but like an episode of Dr.Who, what has the potential to be fucking great always turns in a rather mediocre performance. Just as it gets going its suddenly stops, and your left empty handed with no real climax to the film to come away and chew on. Its been left open for a sequel (Cardigan?Tank top?) which is a shame, I think they should have made it a longer film with more beef. Its also too soft and fluffy, it really has the potential to show how nasty people can become if there being hunted down and killed like animals and how there powers can corrupt. Save it for vid, though as always the SE are better on the big screen. 6/10.
right dear readers, this sore mouthed chap needs some bonjela and a cup of tea. TTFN!
