I've just finished yet another application form, God knows how many that is now. This one has a section for "Leisure Activities" give a brief description of what you do outside of work. Now I know I can say things like running, swimming etc. but all the seminars I've been too tell me not to just list my hobbies but give examples of the type of ( Read more... )

Any sort of training can be spun to show determination, the ability to work toward a goal, the wisdom to take the rough with the smooth, a competitive streak and great legs.

Everyone hates those sections. You're supposed to hate those sections. I think if you go "squee! the blank section!" you're some awful My Little Pony abomination that should be destroyed with fire.

This demonstrates the things Andy mentioned, plus some cognitive ability and ambition, plus it demonstrates my ability to bullshit.

And the more I think about it, the more I could see myself using the 'create your own level in Timesplitters' line, but to be honest I'd drop it into an interview if it was going well, rather than put it on the CV. Humour and self deprecation works really well in the UK, especially if, by accident, it shows you to be good at something.

Oh, and you blog regularly - that's inter-social and hot.

Obviously, tailor all this to the job you're going for...!
