So tonight I made a chicken curry, for like the first time ever. I was kinda making it up as I went along but following vague parental guidelines and generally hoping/praying for the best. Needless to say I was expecting it to be somewhat of a disaster, but not only did it not ming, it was actually quite tasty. I'm still in a mild state of shock

Cool! Congrats! I don't know if I'd have the courage to do that -- I've only ever experimented with deshi food a couple of times, both times strictly following instructions...
