THEY HAVEN'T MET.

...unless you're referring to Alan's penis, in which case, Alan's penis is indifferent to JP.

Fortunately Alan's penis is accustomed to offending people.

Okay, disclaimer: Alan can be a harsh critic! He's not really all that fond of himself, so...don't take any of this personally ( ... )

Little!Alan, as we've already established, finds Julianna creepy.

The more I think about this, the more I realize how little they actually know each other. Well, one of the things Alan likes most about Julianna is her ability to surprise him. The fact that she drinks scotch, her love of fast cars...he's only just starting to realize the extent of her recklessness (although you'd think her back-and-forth with Joey Heric would've clued him in), and when he does figure it out he'll be torn between concern and really, really, really wanting to sleep with her.

Speaking of Heric, he's picked up on her hints that she hasn't completely recovered from that fiasco, but it's been so long since they've seen each other (or even talked) that he doesn't want to overstep his bounds--or worse, traumatize her--by asking about it.

Hmm, what else. He's kind of curious as to why she decided to become a medical examiner, but a) he hates being asked why he became a lawyer and b) he suspects a lot of the details would squick him. Hahaha, there's a ( ... )

Currently Alan's keeping Zippy at arm's length, since she's been posting about once every two months and only when she's having some sort of crisis. He expects her to vanish (er, from the internet) one of these days and doesn't think that would be such a bad thing--she seems to use the net as an escape from the real world. In the meantime he'll offer assistance in the form of advice and banter. At one point he came very close to telling her about Denny, but he's glad he didn't and no longer plans to.

Whenever he talks to Zippy there's this sense of relief, of being able to relax--not to the extent he relaxes around Denny, but still. She's intelligent, she can hold her own with him in conversation, she's not (thank God) in her teens or twenties so he doesn't have to pull his punches or make allowances for her age. He can make literary references without worrying about seeming like a nerd or being met with (the internet equivalent of) a blank look. Sometimes he feels like he and Zippy (well, and Kara) operate in a different reality ( ... )

A lot of this is pretty dead-on, yeah. Zippy using the Internet for stress relief = absolutely!

I actually tend to agree on the romantic front, at least in Zippy's current mental and emotional state. Even completely aside from her issues with sex, she's got a lot of stuff she needs to learn and work out before she'd be capable of a healthy relationship with anyone.

> She always has to be the one with the answers

Yes, yes, and yes. This is where her journal name comes from, which is meant both tongue-in-cheekly but also on a deeper level rather sadly reflective of her issues. She clings a lot to being the one who has everything figured out, even when she's way, way off-base. To some extent she's aware of this (the letter she wrote to her kid self had lots of: 'you're not always right' in it), but nevertheless she can't quite seem to stop doing it. She owes a lot of people in her life apologies right now (Rachel not least among them), and part of her long-term character growth is hopefully going to be in that direction. (And I will ( ... )

Yeah, and I didn't even touch on the reasons Alan shouldn't be pursuing anyone romantically, which could fill a book. Whenever someone suggests that he and Zippy date, he feels compelled to sit them down and explain that life is not a romantic comedy.

on some level thinks Rachel is likely better off with her father anyway.

Alan wouldn't be at all surprised to learn this, but he'd point out that Zippy got herself into this mess by attempting to determine what was best for Rachel without seeking her input. Maybe she (Zippy) should give her (Rachel) the opportunity to decide for herself.

Sure! His thoughts on Paul are in the works, but with all the family stuff going on I'm not sure I'll have time to write/post them this weekend.

Alan thinks Bruce is hilarious and that he can do the impossible--make memes worth reading. He enjoys the irreverence with which Bruce treats Tony Stark, since everyone else seems to work themselves into a tizzy over the guy. He suspects there's more to Bruce than the shallow playboy façade, but doesn't pry because, well, that would turn him into Lorna. (He loves watching Bruce torment Lorna, btw.) Although he's only vaguely aware of Bruce's relationship with Harry, he thinks it's good for both of them.

ETA: He would very much like to meet Alfred.

Hahahahahahaha - I'm trying to think who Bruce WOULD work himself into a tizzy over.

I hope Alan enjoyed being spammed with BWs personal email.

Alan is incredibly proud of Kara. She's come such a long way from the fifteen-year-old who stole Wesley's(?) car and hit the town to drink pink drinks and make out with CUTE BOYS! He's proud of her for earning her GED--not simply for passing the test, but for sticking with it even after her disastrous first attempt. He knows how frustrating (and disheartening) it is to struggle with something that seems to come naturally to almost everyone else (except in his case the something is relationships, not standardized tests) and he admires her willingness to see it through. He can't be sure he'd have done the same. He's proud of the maturity she exhibits in discussing her life--her posts about motherhood and bipolar disorder are honest and thoughtful. She seems to be slowly coming to terms with who she is and what she is and isn't capable of, and she's learning to stand up for herself and call other people on their shit. He's proud of her devotion to her family and her willingness to make sacrifices on their behalf. Sometimes--okay, quite ( ... )

Alan now has a smidge of respect for Lorna thanks to the way she stood by Kara during the JP debacle. (He was particularly impressed that she resisted the temptation to debate everything endlessly and just said, "Look, I've had enough of this.") Um, he doesn't know how she can stand to be married to Henry, but he doesn't lose sleep over it. Other than that, not much has changed.

He thinks Carol needs to learn to loosen up and let herself have fun. Surprise! In less obvious news, sometimes the level of control she maintains--and feels she must maintain--over herself frightens him. Of course, now that she's gone into hiding, it's necessary.

He's not sure how to interact with "Catherine"--on the one hand, he figures he should probably be discreet, but on the other, she's still interacting with the people she interacted with before, posting memes she posted before, and she didn't even change her initials. How has Norman not connected the dots ( ... )
